| Are you considering a
new career as an LGV driver, or just thinking about driving
trucks for a while after leaving the services? We will help you with the transition and finding employment.
Our Forces Resettlement programme is 1 week's training and a 3 week practical
work placement designed to get you a job where you want to
live after leaving the Forces. Big Wheelers has linked up
with major logistics companies and designed the training specifically
to bridge the gap between driving an LGV within the armed
forces and the complex legislation and vehicle types the civilian
driver deals with on a daily basis.
If you are, it’s a good move: There is a serious shortage
of drivers, so the pay is going up and the conditions getting
better. It is also a good way into the logistics industry
where there are a variety of career options within transport
and traffic management, warehouse supervision, recruitment,
training etc. where the skills you gained in the Services
are highly valued, and will contribute greatly to your future
career.
The problem is the initial change. Many experienced MoD drivers
have LGV licences, but have never driven civilian vehicles,
never used a range change gearbox and are just a little bit
uncertain about driver’s hours, tachographs and the
working time regulations. This makes getting started difficult,
and often intimidating. Our course will guide you through the transition.
Opening the first door can be difficult. Civilian employers are hesitant to take on raw recruits. They are looking for experiance. Our work placement bridges this gap and gets you started.
We are aware of the problems – we’ve been there,
and we’ve got the T shirt. We have decided to do something
about it:
We have constructed a course, using our experience, specially
designed to teach MoD drivers, like you, the things you need
to know before going into a civilian driving job – like
driver’s hours and tachos, health and safety, and how
to drive a truck with a range change or EPS gearbox.
